Baltic International Accordion Quintet

The idea of creation the accordion quintet has appeared in the autumn 1999 during the International festival of music for bayan and accordion in Chelyabinsk (Russia). There was a meeting of two accor¬dion duets Vladimir Ushakov - Sergei Likhachov (from St. Petersburg, Russia) and Eduardas Gabnis -Gennady Savkov (from Vilnius, Lithuania). On one of festival concerts the musicians have performed a composition by two ensembles, beforehand having studied it. To that moment the musicians were known each other already about five years. The experience of joint performance was came as desirable to musicians and was decided to work under creation of repertoir for the given collective. The meetings of the participants of ensemble held in the different countries, under different circumstances during all followed time. The idea crystallized more clearly: was decided to expand structure to five persons, then in structure of ensemble Svetlana Stavitskaya (accordionist from Latvia), by then becoming soloist of St. Petersburg Musette Ensemble has appeared.

In 2001 in St. Petersburg within the framework of a cycle of concerts "Meetings of the friends on the Neva riversides", organized by the soloists of St. Petersburg Musette Ensemble, the premiere of the variety program "Accordiamania" with participation of the Lithuanian accordion duet Eduardas Gabnis -Gennady Savkov was held. In the program of a concert has performed also the international accordion quintet, consisting from the soloists of Musette ensemble and participants of the Lithuanian accordion duet.

This concert was followed with meeting of the musicians in August, 2001 on a seminar-festival for ac¬cordionists, regularly organized by the Lithuanian Academy of music in resort town Palanga (Lithuania). The daily rehearsals during the week have allowed quintet to perform with the new program in the concert program of the festival. The performance of ensemble was perceived by public with the large enthusiasm, as has formed the basis to the further development of activity of collective. Quintet was invited to perform in the program of the festival of music for accordion, taking place in Vilnius (Lithuania) in September, 2001, after rather successful performance on which, the ensemble has per¬formed in October on international accordion festival in Daugavpils (Latvia). After the festival in Daugavpils the ensemble has set off to St. Petersburg (Russia), where has performed with solo concerts. Besides during arrival in St. Petersburg recording the first solo album of Quintet in studio of a House of radio was held.

The participants of the ensemble are complete of the joint creative plans and look with confidence in their realization in the future.
